Roma or cherry tomatoes?

Two lovely tomatoes but with totally different flavours. While one is ideal as the basis for a soup or for grilling, the other is perfect for a salad or snack. Do you often wonder which one of these two tomatoes you should be using? We'd like to help you.

Roma tomatoes (plum tomatoes) always have darker flesh than the skin. They have a reasonably full flavour with firm flesh and can be easily skinned, making them perfect for use in soups. However, their firmness also makes them useful for salades, with garlic, capers, lemon and a few herbs, for example. They also grill well.

Unlike the Roma tomato, the cherry tomato has a more expressive, sweet fresh flavour. This makes them perfect for tasty salads or cold pasta sauces. The flavour and size of cherry tomatoes makes them ideal as a healthy snack. Or how about an authentic Italian bruschetta with a mix of cherry tomatoes with onion, oregano, olive oil and salt and pepper? Buon appetito!
