3 reasons to enjoy a Siesta
In many southern cultures, it is very normal to have an afternoon nap. In Spain, where the word originates, and in some parts of Italy, they even close the shops and restaurants. The ideal siesta lasts around 45 minutes. In that time, you do not sleep too deeply and therefore wake up refreshed. Here are 3 good reasons to follow the Italian example of a nap.
1. If you have at least three afternoon naps a week, you will suffer less stress and have 30% less chance of heart problems.
2. Siestas have a stimulating effect. After the nap, your body produces 2 hormones which allow better blood circulation in the brain.
3. The best ideas are often formed following an afternoon nap. While asleep, your subconscience is still active. And because you don't sleep deeply in the afternoon, your brain is even more susceptible to good ideas.
